Re: CWL gets £206m to boost passenger numbers

Totally agree Clive, BOH and EXT have also expressed their concern:- https://www.itv.com/news/wales/2025-05-13/bristol-airport-scathing-over-welsh-governments-subsidy-for-cardiff-airport?fbclid=IwY2xjawKROrdleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETBSYU54d2hmTUR3TlZVUDZaAR6sW8Qd0R0_X0WT_mPZPOxCsrGBNpANosEywQraZJZUW1k...

Re: CWL gets £206m to boost passenger numbers

I disagree entirely. Bristol Airport has earned its market share through open and fair competition. Cardiff, on the other hand, has failed to keep pace, and now its politicians seem intent on using taxpayers’ money to distort and manipulate the market. It mirrors what happened in Scotland two decade...

Re: I wish I could fly/have flown to/from GLA but.....

I’m quite keen to avoid Dubai TBH. Same. Fifteen years ago, Dubai was genuinely classy and sophisticated, attracting professionals and well-heeled travellers. Now, tbh, it's trashy and tacky. Sophisticated travellers are going elsewhere while the Ibiza crowd flocks to Dubai. Think Mercedes-Benz on ...

Re: I wish I could fly/have flown to/from GLA but.....

I've got friends from Glasgow who are currently in Dubai. They flew from Glasgow East because the overnight flight is better timed for visiting Dubai itself.

Re: Have I missed something?

They’re showcasing the ability to take you from your local airport to a wide range of destinations, not highlighting the hub itself. British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, Air France, Icelandair, ...

Re: CWL gets £206m to boost passenger numbers

If the Welsh Government is allowed to plough public money into Cardiff Airport to support growth, then presumably you’d have no issue with the Westminster Government investing an equivalent amount into Bristol Airport?

Assume they’re referring to the TUI flight to Orlando.

Re: CWL gets £206m to boost passenger numbers

Bristol Airport built its success in a fair and open market. If the capital city, complete with a castle, can only compete through taxpayer-funded subsidies, it raises serious questions about the viability of both the business model and the genuine demand for an airport. The only ones crying are Wel...

Re: CWL gets £206m to boost passenger numbers

While it's true that competition rules don't automatically cross borders between different countries, within the UK, both Bristol Airport and Cardiff Airport are still subject to national competition regulations. Even though Cardiff is in Wales and Bristol is in England, they are both part of the UK...

Ryanair winter 25/26

Some encouraging developments have emerged from George Nugent Travels on X and ADB in the schedules section, enough to merit a dedicated thread, as this may grow with further updates. As things currently stand, we’re set to see six additional weekly flights on existing routes: GLA–Alicante: increasi...
