Another GLA only carrier goes East. We've seen this movie before. We can't seem to manage to get anything to come the other way.....

What's next? Airports Transat? Honestly thought Icelandair would be loyal to GLA after how the airport helped them during the volcanic ash period etc. Oh well. Good start for the new management...new faces, same old story

Yeah, but for who? EZY operate this route I know, don't know/care about the EZY frequency but this ain't good news for GLA at all. Wtf is going on at the airport? Is anyone interested in aircraft routes at all? Prices will tumble at EDI and still it will all be about yields. There's no loyalty in any business now Kirky, aviation being no exception. It's pretty much a "Thanks, ta ra" at least in GLA's case. Ek is testament to that and now it seems FI are following on. I have suddenly developed a very uneasy feeling about the take over. A few busses, a burger joint or sandwich bar here and there, it's quite the depressing time, so far.

I have a bit more insight into this thanks to speaking to Icelandair at trade events.
EDI has been on the cards for at least the last 2 years, the exact quote to me was "a second Scottish airport is being considered"
History may well repeat itself, but Glasgow was just expanded in terms of frequency for this winter, and as it stands just now EDI has said their flights will operate September-April
AviAlliance has only been in 5 months, and is spending £350 million on expansion and improvements, you don't invest that money without commitment for airlines to provide capacity
EDI has been on the cards for at least the last 2 years, the exact quote to me was "a second Scottish airport is being considered"

The problem here is that when an airline is at GLA only and want/need to expand capacity and frequency, they tend to start an EDI service. When an airline is at EDI only and they want/need to expand, they add a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th!) daily service at EDI.
Iirc Gordon Dewar openly stated in a interview he tells airlines to do this and not start GLA services bacuse he claimed they can serve GLA by flying to EDI.
This is where GLA has been failing (and EDI succeeding) for many years. I'm willing to give the new owners a bit of time, but they need to reverse this.

I wait to see a breakdown of where the £350m is going - you can see where the likes of Bristol are spending similar amounts
