Ian you’ve been told many times we do not need or want how great EDI is compared to GLA. Your list of alliance member airlines was blatantly shoe-horned in and told us nothing we don’t already know. I honestly wasn’t trying to wind folks up; merely illustrate that a cache of network carriers is desired/required to ensure better connectivity, economies of scale and provide enhanced disruption transfer capability.
On a more conciliatory note I wish all the forum members a happy new year and one which is more successful and prosperous than 2024.

The fact remains that the lack of alliance carriers is a substantial impediment to GLAs Growth.
Its also hugely frustrating during irrops when the only way to get home is via EDI.
Without good status it could also be rather expensive.
Remember a frequent flier will fly at least 50 times a year, that's 50x more visits than someone who flies once a year on Jet Thomson etc. GLA has a very difficult job to get some of these people back from the other place, sadly.

Let’s not kid ourselves that EDI is some major hub like Heathrow, where people are shelling out a fortune to fly with legacy carriers. They’re not. Most EDI passengers are flying Ryanair, and the airport as a whole is very much a bargain-basement operation.

The comparison to LHR has been made before and was rightly laughed at.
I’m not saying I don’t want alliance airlines at GLA, of course I do. In fact, I’d argue that many of them, including Air Canada, American Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and Emirates, would be better suited to GLA than EDI. My point is that EDI’s critical mass isn’t built by high-fare-paying legacy airline passengers. It’s largely built on Ryanair and low fares. Flying from GLA comes at financial premium, EDI is always cheap, bargain basement city.

Agreed. GLA should have the following, IMO. Most of these routes have actually been served by GLA in recent years, with many being long-standing. Some have even demonstrated the ability to attract significantly more passengers from GLA, despite currently operating from the wrong airport. Only two, TK and QR, would be entirely new to the airport.

LH is only 10 weekly, unfortunately and there is no other Star carrier to compliment them. I'd kill for a 2/3 daily AF to CDG to complement KLM.

I didn’t see many folks from the West of Scotland on AC: lots of US pax connecting onwards to RDU, Canadians with internal connections to Quebec and BC plus some Scots but mostly in the minority.
What I did see lots of folks from the West were passengers on FR and LS despite LS having a sizeable presence at GLA. Perhaps they were travelling on services not available from GLA.
I really wish that GLA had secured more aircraft and services following the sad demise of Thomas Cook, but it appears the airport authority was to slow to react.
