I just saw this posted on X, and it immediately resonated with me—especially regarding the Orlando connections, which we know would be in high demand.

It also got me thinking about our overall hub connectivity. Frankly, it's absurd that GLA only links to 2 of Europe’s 5 largest hubs and just 4 of the top 10.

1. London Heathrow
2. Istanbul
3. Paris CDG (Served but point-to-point, no connections)
4. Amsterdam
5. Madrid
6. Frankfurt
7. Barcelona (Served but point-to-point, no connections)
8. Rome (Served but point-to-point, no connections)
9. London Gatwick
10. Munich

* I've excluded Moscow from the list for obvious reasons.

Is BCN big as a hub airport? I think most UK links to there are by lo-co’s?

I think of LHR, IST, CDG, AMS,MAD, FRA and MUC on that list as hubs. We really should have connections to all of them, with possibly less importance attached to MUC (if FRA has a good freq)

If we remove Barcelona from the list, the next hub to enter the top 10 would be Lisbon, another destination currently unserved from GLA.

Further to removing Barcelona which functions more as a point-to-point airport rather than a true hub, I have also removed London Gatwick as it is more of a hybrid with a strong leisure focus rather than a major transfer hub. Overall, GLA's connectivity remains pretty poor, with connections to just 3 of the top 10.

I’d like to think that a competent management team could easily secure both Turkish Airlines and Air France.

1. London Heathrow – British Airways hub
2. Istanbul – Turkish Airlines hub
3. Paris CDG – Air France hub
4. Amsterdam – KLM hub
5. Frankfurt – Lufthansa hub
6. Madrid – Iberia hub
7. Rome Fiumicino – ITA Airways hub
8. Munich – Lufthansa secondary hub
9. Lisbon – TAP Air Portugal hub
10. Vienna – Austrian Airlines hub

If we extend this to a top 15, the outlook for GLA doesn’t improve much.

11. Dublin – Aer Lingus hub
12. Athens - Aegean Airlines hub
13. Vienna - Austrian Airlines hub
14. Zurich - Swiss hub
15. Copenhagen - SAS hub

Yes definitely IST, and CDG should not be too much to ask for an airport and city region like GLA/Glasgow.

LIS Slot restricted apparently, yet continues to operate from other UK airports ;)

Maybe we'll see it return whenever FR open their base here.

It would be great to see AF back in GLA. Their service not only took the pressure off KLm allowing them to add extra connections but also provided round robin ticketing out via AMS back via CDG or vice versa.

MAD is a must; the remnants of Santander, plus Iberdrola (Scottish Power) must provide some healthy business traffic yield. It would also bypass LHR and provide one stop connections to Central and South Americ a which are unrivalled from any other European airport. Holiday traffic wise it provides one stop flights to Jerez, Valencia, the Balearics and also the Canaries allowing multi centre holidays which are becoming more and more popular.

I, for one, would use IB to Jerez for the Semana Santa Feria next April.
