The status quo will remain until we have a vibrant Ryanair base. Bosses now appreciate that.

It's frustrating that we constantly hear claims about "higher yields" at EDI whilst simultaneously hearing stories about flights from EDI being consistently cheaper.

It would support the new CEO's suggestion that even holiday routes are underserved - and also shows how price sensitive pax from across Scotland could potentially be attracted to GLA with the right services/fares.
Someone recently sent me a comparison of yields on UK India routes. Ignoring the rest of the country GLA was higher yielding (sometimes by quite a margin) on every city pairing than EDI.

There really is no excuse for GLA management to their finger out and do something about it.

Tbh, I'd be surprised if their predecessors didn't appreciate that too - they just didn't seem to be to able (or willing?) to do the deal.

I think I maybe saw part of that, although I didn't see the figures for GLA. It's certainly very interesting to hear.

Thanks for sharing, Julie, very interesting. Indeed, we do know why, and we also know that a significant number of passengers travelling to and from EDI are actually travelling to and from Glasgow and would prefer to use GLA. I have a lot of confidence in AviAlliance and the new management, and I believe the current market share that EDI enjoys is as good as it’s ever going to get for them, so the fanboys better enjoy it while it lasts.

It’s not just long-haul and city routes either, as alluded to, even our strongest market, European holiday routes, are vastly underserved. Faro is a prime example: Ryanair flies there from Glasgow East, Prestwick, and even Aberdeen, yet not from GLA itself. Likewise, a classic Glaswegian favourite, Tenerife, is now better served from Glasgow East. It’s ludicrous. Destinations like Skiathos and Santorini aren’t even available from Glasgow, but you can reach them from Scotland’s second city. I have full faith that AviAlliance will put this right.

Don’t Jet2 fly GLA-FAO daily and also EZY *weekly? I fully agree regards JSI and JTR. I remember giving TUImanagement a plot of all Scottish based aircraft, rotes served by competitors and highlighting underserved, unserved holiday destinations. In my TUI days these were the 4S ( not the cheap end of the original Horizon Travel)

Santorini, Skiathos Sardinia and Sicily. The last two were served by BCal, Court Line, Dan Air and Britannia back in the day all direct flights from Glasgow.

I've got friends from Glasgow who are currently in Dubai. They flew from Glasgow East because the overnight flight is better timed for visiting Dubai itself.

I've never flown a daytime flight to DXB so see where they're coming from.

It's unfortunate that the flight is so short though. You always arrive tired

Tbh I'd do anything to avoid an overnight flight, as I virtually never sleep on them - I guess I'm an exception!

I’m quite keen to avoid Dubai TBH.
